Nothing makes a game better than installing some fun mods. Unfortunately, few PS4 titles allow you to do that, but that's not the case when it comes to Fallout 4. Mod support is one of the best features in the console release of the game, for good reason. Bethesda has a reputation for creating compelling worlds that could greatly benefit from user-created additions, which often seek to resolve unaddressed bugs or improve on what's already there.
Mods Coming To Ps4l
A carefully constructed mod load order can completely change your gameplay experience. Regardless of how many times you've played Fallout 4, looking at a few mods might make you want to jump back into it.
Updated on September 19, 2022, by Ritwik Mitra: The Bethesda modding community has developed massively, ever since the early days of modding games like Morrowind and Oblivion to kingdom come. The overhauls, tweaks, graphical upgrades, and everything along the same lines have been so extensive that it's downright impossible to think of playing a Bethesda game without adding a few mods into the mix.
For the longest time, console players could not enjoy the benefit of these mods that PC players flaunted all the time. Thankfully, Bethesda took the bold initiative of letting you download mods for the console copies of their game, including for Fallout 4 on the PS4. Here are some more of the best mods that you can check out in this regard.
If you fall in the latter category, then download the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch. It's one of the few mods that is recommended for a vanilla playthrough as well, especially since the fixes it makes are integral to enjoying a stable experience with the game.
Legendary Modification lets you do precisely that. Simply go to a workbench, have the item you want to modify at hand, and gather the necessary materials to unlock the legendary perk. You still have to actually look for components in order to enhance a weapon, which is nice since most mods simply give you unlimited access to cheats without providing a challenge.
Outfield Retreat is proof that mods on PS4 are not boring or lacking in content, despite the limitations of the console. This mod adds an incredibly lore-friendly player home in Diamond City, located in front of Abbot's home.
This seems to be a reversal of Sony's early stance on mod support for both titles. In early September, Bethesda wrote that Sony "will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either 'Fallout 4' or 'Skyrim Special Edition,'" but that appears to have changed. This is likely in part to keep up with Microsoft, which has allowed for mods in "Fallout 4" on the Xbox One since May.
"We are excited finally to get modding to our PlayStation fans who have supported us for so long," the post continues. "Modding has been an important part of our games for over 10 years, and we hope to do even more in the coming year for all our players, regardless of platform."
It's important to note that Bethesda says players "will not be able to upload external assets with your PlayStation 4 mods," meaning that players will only be able to implement mods that use the game's existing assets. Sorry, Thomas the Tank Engine.
With the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition comes mods support on consoles, and many players have wondered if we'll ever see the Macho Man dragon mod make its way to Xbox One. I got the opportunity to talk to the mod's creator, FancyPants, and he says it's "definitely coming to Xbox."
FancyPants added that his experience with bringing mods to Xbox One has been good, with "very few problems porting [them] over." Furthermore, he hopes other developers take note of Bethesda's foray into console mods.
As a devoted modder, FancyPants believes that the more avenues for which creators can deliver their projects, the better. Despite his overall positivity towards console mods, FancyPants isn't impressed with how Sony has dealt with them on its platform. Because Sony requires every Fallout 4 and Skyrim mod to be created with nothing but assets already in the games, FancyPants can't port any of his over to the PS4. In fact, because of the platform's restrictions, he says he'd "barely call it modding."
We also talked briefly about the possibility of bringing back paid mods, a system Bethesda and Valve tried to implement in 2015. He says that if they could figure out a system that isn't "inconvenient for users and didn't devolve into a mess of microtransactions, clickbait, and stolen assets," then it might work. While he thinks it would be nice, FancyPants doesn't believe such a system is possible.
"The way Valve and Bethesda tried it a while back with Skyrim should be a case study on how not to do it," he said. Fancy Pants noted the lack of advance warning both companies gave the community, how some paid mods required assets from free mods, and the "nightmare" that was curation as key reasons.
"About the only kind of thing I probably would support for paid mods are large scale projects, like Enderal or Skywind, if it ever gets finished," FancyPants continued. "Those kinds of projects tend to have a lot of volunteers though, so even that might be too messy to deal with."
You can see all the mods available for Skyrim Special Edition on PS4, Xbox One, and PC here. Additionally, if you want to transfer your save file over from vanilla Skyrim, then there's one caveat that you might want to know about.
Though there have been loads of mods for Fallout 4 made on PC, the game's official modding toolsuite--the Creation Kit--is not yet available. This is due to arrive early this year on PC, with some supported mods coming first to the Xbox One and then, eventually, to PlayStation 4.
"We want to do it in a way that's easy," Hines said. "This is not about, 'You have to have a PC,' 'You have to do it yourself.' The idea is you go to play the game, there's a menu option, you click on it, and there's a bunch of stuff for you to download. And you click on the stuff that you want and you start playing a game with these new mods. So we want it to be a really streamlined, fun experience. There's still specifics that we have to work out. It's part of our post-launch plan."
As for why Bethesda is bringing Fallout 4's PC mods to Xbox One before PS4, Hines said in a previous interview that Microsoft's history in and knowledge of both the PC and console spaces is partly the reason.
Bethesda's built a new system that sees mods uploaded to Bethesda.net. Mods can then be browsed, downloaded and installed from within the game. You select mods from the main menu and go from there. It all looks pretty seamless.
There are a couple of examples of mods in the video, below, including a nod to Bethesda's infamous The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Horse Armour DLC. That's right, you can download a Horse Armour mod for your Power Armour. Look, there it is below!
If you need a quick refresh on how to get skyrim mods, it's fairly easy. Just hit up the official site and filter by your platform of choice. From there you can download to your console (provided you have a Bethesda.net ID).
But what mods to choose? We've trawled through the 5700-plus available mods for consoles and found a wide range of additions to improve the base game. Some fix problems, others introduce new magic and weapons or make life just that little bit more convenient for the adventurer. A few introduce entirely new locations and quests.
Earlier on we've listed a few cheat mods that let you cheat in a more outright and brazen way, but if you want something a little lighter-touch, perhaps just increasing the leveling curve of the game across the board is more your speed.
The Faster Levelling mod does just that - no fuss, no messing about - it just increases the rate at which your skills level up, making your skills advance over twice as quickly as they do in the vanilla game. While other mods give you access to this kind of feature-set alongside other potentially tempting cheats that you might not want to use, this mod just does this and only this - removing the temptation.
Sometimes the smallest change can seriously up your immersion, and Lampposts of Skyrim is one of those mods that not only increases immersion but actually features a smart change that adds something to the game in ease-of-use terms, too.
Frostfall: Hypothermia Camping Survival is one of the highest-rated mods for PC Skyrim for good reason. It essentially turns Skyrim into a survival sim, with three new mechanics based on camping, cold water and hypothermia. You can tweak these to your own specifications, and go as hardcore as you like with them.
Bethesda has made the decision to bring mods to Fallout 4 on PS4 after all. The company sent out a tweet yesterday afternoon confirming the mods would be part of a later update on the system.
This comes after a dramatic "fallout" between the two companies back in September where Bethesda publicly stated Sony was attempting to place restrictions on the mods. Back at the time, it felt to me like a power move as it happened not long after fans gave a mixed response to the PS4 Pro.
It would appear now that things are smoothed over, but with Bethesda offering little to no detail, it's not immediately clear who caved. Did Sony stand their ground and Bethesda break hoping to boost Skyrim Remastered PS4 sales, or did Sony relent and let Bethesda release the mods the way they want to the platform? Considering Fallout mods and now Skyrim mods were announced, we can assume that this deal was fairly recent as Bethesda likely doesn't have mod support ready for PS4.
The recent launch of mods in Fallout 4 allowed players to customise their adventure with graphical tweaks, new sound effects and even entire new missions, and with hundreds mods available from day one on Xbox One, expect similar healthy support for Skyrim upon release.
3. Start browsing and downloading mods. When you select a mod, you can read its description and in-game changes on the right, and its download size and ability to favourite, download and report on the left. 2ff7e9595c
